Fannish.... we have our own language now?

I would consider myself one of the more moderate members of the "fan culture" spoken of in the following article. However, I was interested to discover that some speech patterns that I find attractive are considered to belong to an emerging dialect!

Towards the very end, the writer suggests that these traits may arise from the speaker "thinking in written English". I certainly do this, and only recently discovered that most people don't.

Pattern: Alexi Throw by Berrocco Design Team
Yarn: Bernat Super Value Harvest Colors 100% Acrylic Colour 53203... I bought seven skeins, but I doubt I'll use them all. I get about one and a half repeats per skein.
Needles: 5.5mm straights (quite short. I would reccommend using circs if you have 'em)
Gauge: Approx. 5sts. to the inch in double seed stitch.

Thoughts so far: I would not have knit a blanket, if it weren't for my brother asking me for one. He wanted a black blanket with a "tri-force" in it, but I told him that I would only knit him something that his girlfriend would approve of. He agreed and OK-ed the pattern and colour for this one. I don't think he'll regret it!
Pattern is easy and fairly mindless with some fun "twists and turns" built-in due to the cable patterning.

Pensées : Je ne tricoterais jamais une couverture, sauf que mon frère me la demandé. Il voulait originalement une couverture noir avec un « tri-force » là-dessus, mais je lui ai dit que je ne ferais rien pour lui si sa blonde ne l’aimerai pas. Il a choisi le couleur et le modèle pour celle-là.
Je trouve que le modèle est facile et il-y-a assez d’intrigue en tricotant les câbles.

Oh, the places we have gone!

We went to Vancouver for three days this past weekend. Here we are on our 14 dollar cruise (people complain about the price, but really there's not much to gripe about. Have a look at the sunset here!)

Nous sommes allés à Vancouver pour la fin de semaine. Nous voici sur notre croisière « budget » (14,00$). Les gens se plaignent que les traversiers coutent trop, mais il n’y a pas beaucoup de raisons pour être malheureux! Regarde le coucher de soleil ici!

We stayed at the Cambie Hostel and had a fantastic time doing all sorts of touristy things such as shopping at Winners, Skytraining, bussing and Sea Bussing all over the place, wandering through Granville Island, and visiting Paul and Marysia on Commercial Drive. Unfortunately for you guys, we were so busy enjoying ourselves that we only took a few pictures.

baby fever

This Labour Day was Pavlo's baptism... here he is "post-dip" with his godparents holding on to his Daddy's stole. I couldn't really get a good shot because of the CRUSH of relatives and friends in attendance.

Comments: Once again, I love this pattern... it works so well with the yarn. It makes the whole thing seem so organic, you know? This time, I had to foreshorten a few spikes because there was a little bit less yarn, but I think the unevenness contributes to the earthy nature of the design.
I hope Rish likes it. It's a VERY late birthday present.
I still have the yarn for one more in pinks and greys.

Commentaires : Encore! J’adore ce modèle. Je trouve qu’avec la laine que j’ai choisi il a l’air si « terrien » (si c’est un mot en français). Cette fois ci, j’avais besoin de raccourcir un peu quelques pointes à cause d’une manque de laine, mais je trouve que ça lui donne l’air paysan.
J’espère que Rish l’aimerai. C’est un cadeau pour son fête et c’est très en retard!
J’ai encore de la laine pour en faire une autre en rose et gris!
